Dosa Sandwich

Dosa sandwich is something new for a change than the regular sandwich. If you have a dosa  or an Idli Batter at home you can make a snack for tea time....or even take it for lunch at work or on picnic.

The very mention of sandwiches brings back the memories of school picnics & my friend pam. I have known her from my lower primary school days...We share many childhood memories of our hometown  Mangalore when we were neighbors. I love tasting different types of food & when i used to visit her most of the time i used to have breakfast at her home. Her mom used to prepare tasty sandwiches & i loved those sandwiches. On the other hand she used to love to have lunch at my house as our cooking was quite different. When we used to go for school trips or excursions her mom used to prepare these cocktail sandwiches & i used to end up eating most of it.....ha!ha!
As i was watching fox life channel there was a food show where they were preparing mini dosa uttappam, that's where i got this idea to make mini sandwiches with dosa & i already had dosa/idli batter in the fridge so why don't i make this snack for tea....!!!!

All you need is dosa batter or Idli Batter & any stuffing of your choice, cheese slices(if your health conscious you can omit the cheese & add tomato slices). Give it a try i am sure you will enjoy it & it's also healthy.
You can even make it with leftover chapatis/roti.

Ingredients for dosa:
  • 3/4 cup raw rice.
  • 1/8 cup parboiled rice.
  • 1/4 cup urad dal.
Method :
  • Rinse both types of rice & soak them for 3-4 hrs.
  • Rinse the urad dal & soak the dal separately.
  • Drain the water & grind the rice & dal separately to a fine paste.
  • The batter should be fluffy & not very thick  nor watery& transfer to container..
  • Add salt mix well cover it & leave it overnight for fermentation.
  • Next day stir the batter, it's ready to make dosa...

Mini dosa
Method for dosa sandwich:

On one of the dosa spread the filling, lay a cheese slice or tomato slice.

Cover with another dosa slice. Next grill the dosa sandwich.

If you have a sandwich toaster, grill the sandwich toaster on a griller plate or you can toast even on a tava, brown it on both sides,be care full while flipping it.
Brown it till crisp, it's a healthy snack.....you can even have it for breakfast or brunch...

You can even make it with leftover chapatis, add the filling & fold it in half & grill till crisp.

Serve hot with tomato sauce or mint chutney 😋
